German national Michael Mertsch, who acted as Go's chief technology officer for the past two years, has resigned his post with immediate effect.

A GO Plc spokesman told MaltaToday that Mertsch resigned after his contract expired,

Mertsch was engaged to train a Maltese national for the post, who will now be taking over as GO's chief technology officer in the coming days.

The 51 year-old German national was in the news last month, after an incident in Valletta where he was punched by an attendant at the Valletta Barrakka lift.

The attendant, Mario Antonelli - who defended himself from the assault charge brought against him by the police, saying that he reacted after Mertsch allegedly passed insulting comments about Malta and the Maltese - was handed a two year conditional discharge by Magistrate Carol Peralta.

But when handing judgement, Peralta said that he had "private information that Mertsch was a difficult person."

Mertsch had said that he was aggrieved at Magistrate Peralta's comments.

Malta is a country where the law of the jungle is supreme and where injustices are the order of the day.

If he is a difficult person, I am sure the employees at Go will say GOOD RIDDANCE OF BAD GERMANS
