Union orders industrial action for Arriva workers
Routes will not be affected, but GWU says tickets will not be sold by Arriva employees.
The General Workers Union has announced industrial action against public transport operators Arriva, but said its directive will not affect the service offered to commuters.
The actions will preclude employees from selling tickets to passengers during the daytime and evening hours.
"We are ready to continue to discuss the outstanding issues to avoid any unnecessary hassle, but we will not stand down from seeing that workers' conditions are not eroded any further," the union said.
The actions were ordered after talks on workers' wages during public feasts fell through.
The union claims that Arriva took a unilateral decision not to pay employees the same rates for public feasts that were originally paid. "The situation escalated when we took the matter to the industrial relations directive."
