Cassar White announced as new Bank of Valletta chairman

Cassar White replaces Frederick Mifsud Bonnici, new director Taddeo Scerri nominated to replace board director.

The former executive chairman of the Malta Shipyards, John Cassar White, has been appointed chairman of Bank of Valletta, replacing Frederick Mifsud Bonnici.

The government has also nominated Taddeo Scerri as a director of the bank, after accepting the resignation of economist Gordon Cordina from the board.

The Maltese government owns the largest shareholding in the bank and nominates its chairman.

Cassar White retired from Bank of Valletta in May 2008 after a professional career with the bank spanning over 36 years. His latest position within the bank was of Chief Officer Risk Management. He previously occupied senior executive positions within the bank in IT, administration, finance and credit. He also served as director of a number of state-owned companies as well as private investment companies.

Scerri is one of the founding partners of RSM Malta, and was previously the deputy managing partner of one of the Big Four accountancy firms and prior to that, managing partner of the Arthur Andersen representative office in Malta. Scerri has extensive experience in providing audit and advisory services to companies operating in diverse industry sectors including manufacturing, hospitality, public sector, retail and others.

Scerri is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
