Air Malta CEO appointed on IATA board

Air Malta's Chief Executive, Peter Davies, has been appointed on the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the trade association for the world's airlines which represents some 240 airlines from 118 countries and represents 84% of total world air traffic.

Air Malta said this is the first time that its Chief Executive has been appointed to such a high profile position within this global association. IATA's Board of Governors is made up of a select-few airline bosses representing different parts of the world.

"It is an honour for me and for Air Malta to be appointed to this Board. The aviation industry is ever changing and a lot has been done in recent years to modernise and optimize global aviation and make it more efficient," Davies said.

The CEO added: "Clearly we must keep up with the changes and challenges of this changing environment and I look forward to work with fellow Board members to support the many areas of aviation activity and help formulate industry policies on critical aviation issues."

IATA's stated mission is to represent, lead and serve the airline industry with the main aim to provide safe and secure transportation to its passengers. All airline rules and regulations are defined by IATA.

The association, headed by Chief Executive, Tony Tyler,  announced a major restructuring of its setup with the changes intended to better serve airline members and stakeholders.
