Almost 50% more cruise liner passengers land in Malta

According to port operators VISET plc, during June 2010, twenty-four cruise liners called in the Port of Valletta.  The vessels carried 44,506 passengers, or 38% more than the total for June 2009 (32,235).

With these latest figures, the number of passengers who called in the Port of Valletta since January 2010 stood at 198,152 compared to 132,454 passengers registered during the first six months of 2009.

According to VISET, this equated to an increase of almost 50% when compared to the first six months of 2010.

During June, the ‘MV Spirit of Oceanus’ called for the first time.  Also on 20 June 2010, the ‘MV Golden Iris’ called under its new owners Mano Maritime.

On 29 June 2010, the ‘MV Costa Allegra’ carried out the first fully-fledged homeport operation, which involved around 930 Maltese passengers.
