‘Government will support private companies to bring new projects to Malta’ - Zammit Lewis

Parliamentary Secretary Edward Zammit Lewis promises the government’s support to companies working in the digital sphere.

During a visit to Studio Seven, Birkirkara, this morning, Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Growth Edward Zammit Lewis said the government was committed to putting Malta on the forefront of countries that offer substantial advantages to foreign investors without unnecessary bureaucracy.

During last April's budget, the government embarked on a process of analysis of Maltese laws to ensure Malta will be more attractive to foreign investors and to raise Maltese employment levels.

Zammit Lewis said that in order for the Maltese economy to continue to grow, there is need for more companies to be able to tap into new markets, and to ensure their services meet clients' expectations in terms of method and technology.

He said the government aims to help companies which offer services in digital spheres, including the gaming industry. The Permanent Secretary promised to support companies like Studio Seven in order to attract more projects from abroad - especially those related to communications, logistics, digital media and gaming.

Studio Seven currently employs around 75 full-timers and 30 part-timers. It specializes in conference logistics, installation of technological apparatus, broadcasting in the gaming sectors, television production, graphics, marketing, and audio-visual production.

It recently began offering its services to the gaming industry, and has invested about €500,000 in specialised high definition technology. They hope this will attract more business to the company and to Malta, especially regarding foreign conferences in Malta and investors in the gaming industry.

What we need in Malta is the development of this Multi-Million €uro Biofuels Project taking off. As stated before this will create an immediate 140 permanent jobs after the two construction period in this €100 Million development. But the benefits to Malta's economy will be far greater withe the production of all the fuel needed for our cars made in Malta from various sources of materials and selling at the pumps at €urocents 90 per litre. This would really cement a good relationship with the needs of the people having Fuel Prices at the pumps 50 cents lower than they are now. What piece of good news that would be for all of us that drive. And furthermore we would not need to import 1.5 Million barrel of refined fuels to Malta saving the balance of payments over €200 Million a year.
