Transport Malta signs contract for the management of Kalkara temporary marina
Transport Malta (TM) yesterday signed the concession agreement for the management, operation and control of a temporary marina in Kalkara for a period of 8 years.
The agreement was signed by Stanley Portelli, Transport Malta CEO, and Emanuel Delceppo for Kalkara Marina Co. Ltd. According to the signed agreement, the operator will pay Transport Malta a concession fee of €20,000 on an annual basis.
The site, located between Villa Bighi and Villa Portelli, just in front the Kalkara boat yard, was identified by TM as one of the sites suitable for the development of a temporary marina when it published the study “Development of Yachting Facilities in Malta” in April 2009. TM had issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the management and operation of this marina at the end of last year.
The agreement allows the operator to offer “stern to” moorings whilst pontoon infrastructure will be installed when the necessary permits are issued by MEPA. Once the required infrastructure is in place, namely the 3 pontoons, the temporary marina will accommodate up to approximately 120 yachts. The operator will also provide a range of services such as berthing assistance, provision of supplies and other related ancillary services.
