Accountants body elects first female president
The Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) elected Maria Micallef as its first female president since it was set up in 1942. She will serve a two-year term.
MIA, which is the representative body of the accountancy profession, has 2,130 members.
During a recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), the following were elected Members of the Council for a two-year period: Franco Azzopardi, Etienne Borg Cardona, Simon Flynn, Kevin Mahoney, Maria Micallef, William Spiteri Bailey and Anthony Zarb.
The elected members join the following persons elected at the previous year's AGM: Fabio Axisa, Anthony Doublet, Hilary Galea-Lauri, Frederick Mifsud Bonnici, Stephen Paris, Bernard Scicluna and Franz R. Wirth.
At a subsequent meeting of the Council, Maria Micallef was elected President, Franco Azzopardi Vice-President, William Spiteri Bailey Honorary Secretary and Fabio Axisa Honorary Treasurer.
