‘More planning needed on summer construction’ – Labour

The Labour Party has expressed concern at the permits issued for construction in tourism areas during the summer season.

The PL said it was joining the hotels and restaurants association (MHRA) and the small business chamber (GRTU) in taking government to task for not being in line with its own policy to stall construction in tourist zones for the summer.

Present works in progress are the paving works in Valletta, and the promenade construction in Marsaxlokk and Xlendi Road.

“This situation clear shows the clear lack of serious planning in the implementation of capital projects, which generates a massive inconvenience and severely impacts businesses which depend on summer activity. It shows a lack of consultation with stakeholders,” Labour MP Charles Buhagiar said.

Buhagiar said the importance of certain projects “was understandable, but planning needs to be taken into consideration.”
