Sharks on a plane… courtesy of Air Malta

Last Thursday Air Malta's flight KM 103 from London to Malta carried an unusual cargo: five black tip reef sharks and a host of other exotic fish destined for the soon-to-open Malta National Aquarium in Qawra.

A spokesperson for the airline said that it was probably the first time that live sharks of this species have been carried by the airline. The transportation of the fish was coordinated by the airline's cargo division in collaboration with the Malta National Aquarium. The aquarium's management thanked Air Malta for their efficient and professional service.

The national aquarium is carrying out its final preparations and will soon open its doors to the general public. It will house fish species from the Mediterranean and Indian oceans, including different species of sharks.
