Marsa maritime hub attracts 28 submissions for development
Expressions of interest for development for former Malta Shipbuilding site pour in.
The Privatisation Unit has received 28 expressions of interest for the development of a maritime hub on the site of the former Malta Shipbuilding.
The deadline for the submissions came to an end on Monday 5 August.
Of the 28 submissions, 11 propose the development of the entire site, while the rest are proposing the development of a part of the site measuring 175,000 square metres. The expression of interest envisages either situation for the development of the hub.
The bidders include both Maltese and foreign companies.
Minister for the economy Chris Cardona said the submissions were a sign of trust from investors in the government, which views Malta as having a natural potential to turn into a maritime centre of excellence in the Mediterranean.
"The development of a maritime hub is only one of the measures this government intends using to stimulate the economy, commerce, create jobs and foster a climate that attracts investors and gives them peace of mind," Cardona said.
"Our country is sending out the right signals on the potential it offers and this government will continue with such initiatives to help our economy grow."
