Malta's former High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Joseph Zammit Tabona, has been appointed chairman of Valletta Cruise Port plc, operators of the Valletta waterfront and cruise liner terminal.

Zammit Tabona had served as chairman of Valletta Cruise Port between 2007 and 2009.

In a career spanning over 40 years, Zammit Tabona was appointed on a number of boards of private and public companies. He served as chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange, Finance Malta, the Malta Accountancy Board, the Malta Development Corporation, the Malta External Trade Corporation, the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprises and later of Malta Enterprise.

He also held directorships in Bank of Valletta, the Malta Council for Arts, Science and Technology and HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) Limited, and served as the president of the Federation of Industry.

Zammit Tabona is also serving as the Prime Minister's special envoy for investment promotion.

Zammit Tabona will be focusing on strengthening Valletta Cruise Port's relationship with the cruise lines, local agents as well as other stakeholders, in particular the Malta Tourism Authority.

"There is much scope in synergizing the input of all concerned for the benefit of an industry that last year alone, generated €98 million to the local economy," Zammit Tabona said in a short comment. "I will be fully supporting management in its business development initiatives and continue with the further development of the company's property in the port of Valletta to retain its position as one of Malta's prime destinations.

Some people are born under a bright star. They stand to be appointed in high positions whatever the Government of the day, getting massive perks in the process. Ambassador, bank directorships, MDC, Malta Enterprise, the lot. How can such people be experts in so much? Or is it whom they know and which organisation they form part of!!!!!
