Malta Enterprise chairman accompanies Muscat to China

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is being accompanied by deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech and Malta Enterprise chairman Mario Vella in a visit to Daliana for the Davos summer forum.

Muscat will be participating in the Summer Davos Forum where he is expected to meet Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, in the city of Dalian in northeast China.

Li, who will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, is scheduled to meet the leaders of Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland and Malta.
The theme of the Davos forum will concentrate on innovation and financial risk.

The event will also consist of more than 100 sub-forums. About 1,600 people, including national leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs, scholars and media leaders from more than 80 countries will attend.

Summer Davos, also known as the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions, is an annual gathering and will take place from Sept. 11 to 13 this year.
China has played host to the event alternately in Tianjin and Dalian, since its inception in 2007.

In addition, the World Economic Forum will be holding private, peer-to-peer meetings designed to provide participants with cross-industry perspectives on energy, healthcare, IT, infrastructure, mining, and science.

"The Annual Meeting of the New Champions brings together innovators who are creating the future of business and society. It will highlight how the heads of top-ranked multinationals and tomorrow's industry champions, together with government, media, academia and civil society, can drive competitiveness and economic recovery," said Olivier Schwab, executive director of the World Economic Forum China.

This year's select group of business leaders from the Forum's member companies who will act as mentors include Andrea Illy of the Illy coffee group, Western Union president Hikmet Ersek, and Eni chairman Giuseppe Rechhi amongst others.

Heads of state and government who have confirmed their participation, are: Ali Babacan, deputy prime minister of Turkey; UN special envoy for global education Gordon Brown; Russian deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich; Jyrki Katainen, Prime Minister, Finland; Luis A. Moreno, president of the Inter-American Development Bank; Joseph Muscat; Plamen Orecharski, Prime Minister of Bulgaria; Elio Di Rupo, Prime Minister, Belgium; Tigran Sargsyan, Prime Minister, Armenia; and IMF deputy director Min Zhu.
