September passenger traffic up by 10.8%

Malta International Airport registers another increase in passenger movement with a 10.8% increase over same month last year.

Passenger traffic through Malta International Airport in September has reached an all time high with a 10.8% increase over the same month of 2012.

The number of passengers travelling through MIA in September hit 452,294. "This is more good news after August saw 500,000 passengers travelling through, making it the airport's best month ever,"MIA CEO Markus Klaushofer said.

In the first nine months of this year MIA clicked 3.2 million passenger movements, an increase of  9% over the same period of time last year. This is mostly due to a 12.1% increase in seat capacity.

September's success arrived mainly from Germany and Italy which registered an increase of  33.7% and 19.1% respectively. Traffic from France increased by 14.9% while that from the UK went up by 1.1%. At the same time Spanish travellers decreased by 6.4%. Aircraft movements also registered an 10.6% increase over last year.

More statistics show the maximum take-off weight (MTOW) increased by 11.2% and cargo mail increased by 3.9%. However the average seat load factor (SLF) decreased by 1%.
