Vodafone rolls out ultra-fast 4G broadband
Vodafone Malta launched its 4G network Wednesday morning, making the it the first mobile telephony company in Malta to roll out the service.
The 4G network was developed over six months at a cost of €10 million, CEO Balesh Sharma said.
Sharma said the milestone will put Malta "on the global technology map", giving users higher internet speeds.
Prime Minsiter Joseph Muscat, who was present for the roll-out, said the investment would Malta on the cutting edge of innovation.
The first live transmission over wireless 4G broadband was carried out during the press launch with a live link to Vodafone's offices at Skyparks.
4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone communication technology, providing ultra-broadband Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphones, and to other mobile devices.
