Gozo Tourism Association calls for better upkeep of sister island in peak season

The Gozo Tourism Association council is concerned that during the thick of summer, when Gozo is welcoming more than usual both foreign and local tourists, certain frequented resorts and tourist spots still lack proper organization and maintenance.

The Gozo Tourism Association is calling on government to take care of the upkeep and maintenance of the tourism product on the Island of Gozo.

“Being such a small Island Gozo should not pose a difficulty to maintain and keep it clean and organized. Such upkeep and maintenance generally involves only man power and little financial investment or EU funds. The removal of disused trailers from our resorts, the renewal or missing interpretation signs at the salt pans and the replacing of the oil tanks used as litter bins on Gozo’s ten beaches by modern ones, for sure does not require extraordinary  efforts to implement,” the GTA said,

“It is distorted that while the island is being presented as a naturally  beautiful destination,  yet  when visited one which is lacking in the product upkeep . Photos that were  recently received at  the Association office taken by a foreign couple who spent their holiday every year on the island is ample proof, that those responsible are not noticing what is lacking in the product the island is offering.

“To improve the overall touristic offer and an authentic Gozitan experience, government both central and  local,  should make a concentrated and united effort by systematically looking after and maintaining  our tourist resorts and attractions not only in summer months but throughout the year,” the GTA said.
