Turnover in services activities up by 1.3%

Provisional seasonally adjusted data indicate that in the third quarter of 2013, turnover in selected services activities increased by 1.3 per cent.

Over the corresponding quarter of 2012, working day adjusted services' turnover went up by 2.1 per cent.

Over the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted turnover registered an increase in all sectors except accommodation and food services activities and professional, scientific and technical activities, where turnover fell by 3.3 and 1.6 per cent respectively. An increase in turnover was observed for wholesale and retail, including repair of motor vehicles (+1.0 per cent), transportation and storage (+7.1 per cent), information and communication (+2.8 per cent), and administrative and support services activities (+0.5 per cent).

Furthermore, seasonally adjusted employment, gross wages and salaries and hours worked grew by 0.3, 1.7 and 0.6 per cent respectively.

When compared to the corresponding quarter in 2012, working day adjusted turnover for the third quarter in 2013 went up by 2.1 per cent. Turnover increased in retail trade (+3.9 per cent), transportation and storage (+12.3 per cent), information and communication (+1.4 per cent), professional, scientifi  c and technical activities (+6.7 per cent) and administrative and support services activities (+6.5 per cent). On the other hand, declines were registered in motor trade (-4.8 per cent), wholesale trade (-1.2 per cent) and accommodation and food services activities (-2.7 per cent).

During the quarter under review, employment, gross wages and salaries, and hours worked increased by 1.9, 4.1 and 0.1 per cent respectively over the comparative quarter of 2012.
