UĦM expresses solidarity with Arrow Pharm employees
Union pledges to help find work for those employees made redundant.
The Secretary General of UĦM (Union Ħaddiema Maghqudin) Josef Vella said that the situation at Arrow Pharm, where over 100 employees may be made redundant, was "a very worrying one".
Earlier this week, the pharmaceutical company Actavis - the company of which Arrow Pharm is a subsidiary - announced that 110 workers, which equates to 40% of the staff, were at risk of redundancy due to a restructuring process which was being carried out.
"The situation is very worrying, especially since we believed that this was a successful company which was only going to keep on expanding," Vella said, adding that the Union was intent on meeting with the company to, at least, lessen the number of employees that will be affected.
Expressing the Union's solidarity with the company's workers and their families, Vella said that UĦM was currently in discussions with the company, the Ministry for Work, and that of the Economy in an attempt to find alternative work for those affected.
"The Union will be doing everything in its capacity so that alternative posts are found for all those employees who might be losing their jobs," Vella said.
