Hotel Kempinsky amongst other Gozitan entities benefitting from European funds
Hotel Kempinski in San Lawrenz, Gozo has benefited from a number of serious investment projects through the use of European funds, such as product improvement and diversification, training for employees and an increase of staff.
Hotel Kempinski received grants intended to assist tourism projects, such as investment in its management system, leveling the Malta hotel with other international Kempinski hotels. The hotel’s staff was given training of international standards.
The San Lawrenz hotel also increased its staff by 12 workers through the Employment and Training Corporation’s (ETC) Employment Aid Programme. Projects under the European Regional Development include a renovated spa, investment in a water desalination plant, and installation of WIFI all round the hotel. Under the 20 million for industry scheme by Malta Enterprise, hotel Kempinski should receive newly-installed solar panels.
Gozo minister Giovanna Debono said today she is satisfied with the way Gozitan entrepreneurs and stakeholders, together with tourist establishments recognised available opportunities thanks to European co-financed schemes.
“The Gozo ministry works closely with the Gozo Tourism Association, because we are aware of the importance this sector has on Gozo’s economy, and on other social-economic sectors,” Debono said.
The industry also provides a substantial amount of 10% of employment in Gozo. “Funds received by operators and other Gozitan entities from schemes co-financed by European funds will be combined with funds for infrastructural projects and others for Gozo, which are instrumental if Gozo wants to enjoy 10% of the funds allocated to Malta,” Debono said.
Parliamentary Secretary for consumers Chris Said also praised the initiatives undertaken by hotel Kempinski, for investing in alternative energy, ultimately attracting tourism and employment. Said said “In the past few months, 812 persons found work through the ETC, already exceeding its expectations of helping 1,530 people with employment. The ETC scheme helped 262 Gozitans seek employment.”
