More than 25,000 customers use melitaWIFI

Users can access wireless connections in several outdoor locations as well as indoor hotspots

More than 25,000 Melita customers are making regular use of the company’s free next generation Wi-Fi service – melitaWIFI.

MelitaWIFI is available for free to all melita mobile customers, and gives access to high speed Wi-Fi in some of Malta’s busiest outdoor zones and at more than 35,000 indoor hotspots.

“This is an exciting milestone for Melita, and we see an exponential growth in users and usage on melitaWIFI. Customers using melitaWIFI benefit from superfast speeds and a massive 10 Gigabyte bundle of free internet access.

"Their feedback is very positive and it can be seen in usage growth – so much so that internet access by melita mobile customers over melitaWIFI has now surpassed traditional 3G internet access. As we roll out more outdoor zones across Malta and Gozo these numbers are only set to grow further”, commented Ludolf Rasterhoff, COO at Melita.

Getting access to melitaWIFI is very simple. On connecting to a melitaWIFI zone you’re asked to enter your melita mobile number and a pass code is sent back by SMS. Enter this code and you’re connected and browsing wherever melitaWIFI is present. Melita customers who do not have mobile service may access the service using their MyMelita login details.

The outdoor zones include amongst others the St Julians to Sliema promenade from Spinola all the way to Qui-Si-Sana, the Strand, Republic Street and Merchant Street in Valletta, Paola and Mosta centres and the Marsascala promenade. More locations will be announced shortly and a full list is available on melita’s website.

As part of a promotional period, the melitaWIFI service is also available for free to all melita customers until the end of the year 2014.
