Prime Minister ‘hands himself certificate of failure’ on Air Malta – Labour
Labour MP Marie Louise Coleiro-Preca said Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi’s statements on Air Malta’s economic stability were belied by the company’s performance throughout the past 23 years of Nationalist administration.
“Air Malta was the fruit of the sacrifices of a Labour government and had to overcome scepticism from conservative forces behind the PN. Its leadership made Air Malta an economic contributor without a single cent in subsidies. It was wrong decisions by people trusted by GonziPN that cost the company millions,” Coleiro-Preca said.
The Labour MP said the company today was suffering from a lack of leadership and that the government was not paying importance to this national asset. “Air Malta doesn’t even have a full-time chairman at such a delicate period for tourism and the economy.”
Coleiro-Preca said Labour believed there was still a future for the national airline “if government gives it trust and vision. A Labour government is ready to this without any hidden agenda.”
