Malta’s exports to non-EU countries up by 12%
Malta one of just seven EU countries to increase exports outside the European Union
Eurostat data confirmed that Malta’s exports to countries outside the European Union increased by 12% in January 2015, while the EU registered a decreased of 2%.
Malta was just one of seven countries to register an increase in exports outside the EU.
In a statement, the Maltese government said it was working to continue improving commercial relations with countries outside the EU. Last week, Trade Malta was launched to help local businesses tap into foreign markets.
It accused the Opposition of resisting any government’s attempts to expand Malta’s growth potential with non-EU member states.
The government referred to statistics issued by the National Statistics Office which showed a €10 million improvement in Malta’s current account balance in the last quarter of 2014.
Malta also registered improvements in the services sector, while income from tourism increased by €73 million and gaming, IT and professional services sector increased by €134 million.
