Joseph Farrugia, Tonio Portuguese appointed new MCAST President, Vice President respectively

MEA Director-General Joseph Farrugia and ST Human Resources’ Manager Tonio Portughese have been appointed as new President and Vice-President of the Malta College for Arts, Sciences and Technology respectively.

The three-year appointment has been made by Education, Work and Family Minister Dolores Cristina and was announced in a Goverment statement today.

The new MCAST President has been occupying the post of Malta Employers’ Association (MEA) Director-General for the past nine years.

Before, he occupied the post of lecturer with the University of Malta (UOM) and the Junior College, where he taught marketing and other related subjects.

He also has vast experience in marketing consultancy and also worked as a human resources officer with Gasan Group between 1988 and 1995, where he was responsible from industrial relations, training, development and organisation.

Farrugia represents MEA in the Malta Council for Social and Economic Development (MCESD) and in other international fora such as the European Social Fund, the International Employers’ Organisation.

The MCAST Vice-President had already served as a member of the MCAST board of Governors.

Portughese has vast experience both in Malta at ST as well as abroad.  He is a lecturer in Management and is the author of a number of books and publications.
