HSBC and KNPD sign agreement for equal opportunities

HSBC Malta and the National Commission Persons with Disability (KNPD) have entered into an agreement to ensure equal opportunities to HSBC clients and employees.

The agreement, signed by KNPD chairperson Joseph Camilleri and Chief services officer of HSBC Malta Sally Robson, states that Bank staff members will have equal opportunities to benefit from training, staff development and promotions, irrespective of the disability they may have.

However, prior to recruiting new staff, HSBC will consult the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) to check whether a disabled person has the necessary skills to match the job requirements for employment.

By means of its refurbishment programme, HSBC will look out to make all branches accessible to disabled persons, the company said in a statement. New Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) will be made accessible for wheelchair users, and online services offered by the bank will be offered to visually impaired customers.

Bank employees, particularly those who are in direct contact with customers, will receive disability awareness training to ensure that disabled persons receive a respectful service.

“The agreement signed with the KNPD is an important step for HSBC Malta as it strengthens our commitment to offer an inclusive environment for all customers and employees who are experiencing different daily realities,” Robson said. “At HSBC, this is achieved through the creation of a culture that is free from bias and which involves every person, valuing each of their unique qualities.”
