New board for Malta Association of Risk Management
The objective of the Malta Association of Risk Management is to promote, advance and encourage the knowledge of, and use of risk management within the private and public sectors in the Maltese Islands
Ian-Edward Stafrace is the newly elected president of the Malta Association of Risk Management (MARM), the association that has been representing the risk management profession in Malta since 2011.
The objective of the Malta Association of Risk Management is to promote, advance and encourage the knowledge of, and use of risk management within the private and public sectors in the Maltese Islands through the exchange of experience, knowledge and advice among its individual members, corporate members and professional associations on all matters of a professional, technical and organisational nature.
MARM held its annual general meeting at the University of Malta on 30th June in which the new board was elected for the next two years. This includes outgoing president Dr Simon Grima who takes on the new role of education and certification affairs. Dominic Fisher is the new vice president while Sharon Cilia Tortell and Andre Farrugia retain the treasurer and secretary roles respectively. Ingrid Azzopardi is the public relations officer, Mark Zammit is responsible for membership and sponsorships and Robert Cachia is events co-ordinator.
Ian-Edward Stafrace said MARM will continue to raise the profile of risk management in Malta through events in collaboration with other professional associations and with increased member engagement and networking opportunities for all those interested to learn more on how to better manage uncertainties, threats and opportunities. “We want to help risk students and risk managers build their skill-set and prepare them for future risk leadership roles.”
MARM will continue its efforts in the area of risk education. Acknowledgment was given to MARM’s past achievements with the University of Malta where risk management is featuring in an increasing number of courses. As member of FERMA, the Federation of European Risk Management Associations, MARM has been actively participating in FERMA’s project to launch later this year a professional risk manager certification that will be recognised across Europe.
“The new board is privileged that during its term, Malta will host for the first time FERMA’s biennial risk management seminar in October 2016. This will be a unique and exciting opportunity with hundreds of risk management experts coming from all across Europe.”
Following the recent presentation on Embedding Risk, MARM is following up with a workshop on Thursday 27th August. This is a free event for whoever attended the first event on Embedding Risk on the 30th June as well as for MARM members. MARM is also planning a Foreign Exchange Risk Event in October.
