The next speaker in the EY / TAKEOFF Exceptional Entrepreneurs series is Dr Alexander Galitsky - a well-known innovator, entrepreneur and investor. He will be sharing his views on how to bring innovative ideas to life at an event on Friday 11 September, 5pm at the Chamber of Commerce in Valletta.
Galitsky, a Russian Entrepreneur of the Year winner, holds more than 30 patents, and has authored over 100 publications. With ELVIS+, a company he founded in the fall of 1991, he pioneered the development and commercialization of WiFi and FW/VPN technologies in collaboration with Sun Microsystems.
Earlier in his career, he served as one of the top technical executives for the Soviet space industry, where he worked on the Mir space station and the Soviet response to “Star Wars,” the Strategic Defence Initiative. Forbes and the World Economic Forum have named him as the most influential person in the Russian IT and internet industry.
His talk will focus on the early stages of the start-up business lifecycle. It will touch upon how you can commercialise your great idea and turn it into a venture, how to then build your business, and finally how to raise additional capital for growth from various sources including venture capital. The event is very interactive in nature and the audience can put forwards lots of questions.
Alexander is the co-founder and managing partner of Almaz Capital, an early stage venture capital firm investing in entrepreneurs in high-growth tech sectors with offices in California and Moscow. Its portfolio contains two of the most successful Russian tech companies to date: Yandex, which has a market cap of over $8 billion, and Parallels, a global software automation and virtualization company.
He was nominated as the best European VC of the Decade by The Investor AllStars Awards and named a Technology Pioneer’ by the World Economic Forum. He serves on the Skolkovo Foundation Board and as Chairman of the Advisor Committee for Russian Venture Company. He has his PhD in Computer Science.
