Extension granted to Bay Street Hotel in Paceville
Three additional floors to be constructed above existing hotel
The MEPA Board gave planning permission to the Bay Street Hotel in Paceville for the development of three additional floors over the existing hotel.
MEPA said thes extension will allow the hotel’s operators to “continue to upgrade their tourism product and increase their profitability and competitive edge, especially in the light of the highly volatile international tourism market.”
The approved extension will accommodate 53 new guest rooms and a multi-purpose hall. The design of the extension will replicate the high quality design of the existing facade of the hotel building.
This planning application benefitted from the approved new revised Hotels Height Limitation Adjustment Policy which allows the vertical extension of hotels rated as three=star or above by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).
“Through this policy, such hotels, may apply for development permission to increase the height of the hotel building above the height limitation permitted in the Local Plan provided that the resultant design features a high quality product in keeping with the urban context,” MEPA said.
