DiscountIF, an ecommerce startup, operated by a Maltese team co-located in Malta and London has successfully reached their initial investment target on Seedrs, a crowdfunding site in the UK.

This is a first for a Maltese entity and a significant milestone for Maltese startups seeking international exposure.

Founder and CEO Lewis Holland said: “Crowdfunding is changing the way that people invest, and we are changing the way people shop. We are a company of firsts, so this felt like an appropriate way to raise new finance.”

Jeff Lynn, the CEO of Seedrs, was recently in Malta and he explained his excitement in having the first Maltese company appear on his site.
“We’re excited to have DiscountIF campaign on Seedrs – not only because it’ll be the first Maltese business on Seedrs, but also because it’s a business with a fresh approach to ecommerce.”

With the investment being raised DiscountIF is disrupting the £50bn ecommerce market with their innovative promotions technology. DiscountIF has built a promotional widget to enable any ecommerce site to create offers such as: ‘Buy a Samsung TV and IF Manchester United wins the Premier League you get your money back’.

The company has tested successfully these offers on their own site, www.discountif.com, and will now scale the business by adopting a Business-to-Business strategy to reach more consumers. Their reach out campaign has been positive and have got commitment for trials for Q1 2016 with some of the largest sports ecommerce sites in the UK.

More than half of the investors are from Malta, and the public still have the opportunity to invest in one of the most promising startups from Malta, check them out here: https://www.seedrs.com/discountif1?promo_code=S29YUMV9.

DiscountIF is no stranger to the Maltese islands, currently located at the University of Malta’s TAKEOFF incubation centre, it is also funded and back by the University itself. DiscountIF had featured in local media while it was taking part in Richard Branson’s Pitch-to-Rich competition.

Although DiscountIF did not win Richard Branson’s Pitch-to-Rich competition, they finished seventh out of 1,000 companies and made it all the way to the semi-finals.

During the competition, DiscountIF was able to gather over 3,000 votes from the public. DiscountIF has now managed to get the same, IF not better, support from the people as they are currently overfunding on Seedrs.
