InterContinental Malta is proud to announce the magnificent performance of its barmen at the recent Malta Bartenders Guild – Cocktail Competition 2016, where Marco Utomo working at Club InterContinental as a professional butler won the competition. The judges comments mentioned in a highly positive light, his creativity, magnificent combination of flavours, and the fantastic flair and artistry he displayed throughout all rounds.
Utomo’s cocktail was named ‘Signs of Love’ and contained: Bombay Sapphire Gin Infused with Hibiscus Flowers, De Kuyper Kwai Feh Lychee Liqueur, Finest Call Sweet & Sour Mix, Real Ginger Syrup, Fresh Lime Juice and Fresh Lemon Juice. The Garnish was a beautiful natural combination of Bear Grass, a Lychee, Blueberries and a wood clipping.
InterContinental Malta’s food and beverage team led by director of food & beverage Nicolai Calleja was delighted to participate in and host the event at the hotel’s Carissa Lounge. Also participating in the competition from InterContinental Malta was Giuseppe Attard and Luca Galea, both also well acknowledged for their creations.
The Malta bartenders guild is an associate of the international bartenders association and all completion participants need to be employed, on part-time or full-time basis, in any sector of the catering industry. Participants in the competition are evaluated on the character (meaning whether the cocktail is tropical, fruity, frozen, sweet, sour, spicy, etc.), presentation, flavour, aroma, taste, texture and balance.
“I would like to congratulate Marco on his achievement he does himself and InterContinental Malta great credit. What was on display throughout the competition represents everything that we continue to strive towards here at the hotel, fantastic products of great quality, presented with flair, skill and excellence,” area general manager Malta Martin van Kan said.
