Sea passengers up by 7.8% in third quarter
A total of 1,643,898 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the third quarter this year
A total of 1,643,898 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the third quarter this year, marking a 7.8% rise when compared to the same period the previous year.
The highest number of passengers was recorded in August, when the figures amounted to 582,264. This accounted for 35.4% of the total number of passengers for the quarter. This also meant that the majority of trips took place in August, with 2,178 trips being registered. This translates to 34.4% of trips in this period.
In the third quarter, the total number of trips grew by 8.6% when compared to the third quarter of the 2015, amounting to 6,324.
The number of vehicles which crossed also increased by 6.9%, coming to a total of 446,890.
Between January and September 2016, passenger traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays, whereas highest numbers from Mġarr were recorded on Sundays and Saturdays.
