George Micallef re-confirmed MHRA president
Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association appoints new council.
MHRA president George Micallef was reconfirmed in his role for the year 2010-2011 at the 52nd Annual General Meeting.
Micallef thanked outgoing council members for their work and support during the past year. The newly elected Council appointed the officials and MHRA designate representatives on the various boards and committees who will be representing MHRA during 2010/2011.
Micallef underlined the positive results achieved this year both in terms of arrivals and also tourism earnings, following the negative results of 2009, but pointed out that private enterprise is still under pressure and facing an increasingly competitive landscape.
The new council discussed the issues linked with our national airline which are of a major concern to the MHRA and indeed the industry, and stressed that in the process of restructuring, airline seat capacity and arrivals have to remain Government’s priority, as it is the key to the long term sustainability of the tourism industry.
The Council pledged its continued support to the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, the Environment and Culture, the Malta Tourism Authority and all other stakeholders in the best interest of the tourism industry.
The new MHRA Council for 2010/2011 is now composed of George Micallef as President, Tony Zahra and Kevin DeCesare as Vice Presidents and Joseph Attard as Treasurer. The other members of the Council are Nicholas Borg, Noel Attard, Ms. Isabelle Debattista, Raphael Cauchi, Noel Debono, Julian Diacono, Anthony Gatt, David Jaccarini, Matthew Pace, Winston J. Zahra and Claire Zammit Xuereb. Dr Hugh Peralta was also confirmed as Secretary General for 2010-11.
