Freeport installs state-of-the-art surveillance system
Malta Freeport Terminals has recently installed at its facilities a video surveillance system covering all the Freeport grounds, monitoring all its facilities and operations with day and night high-powered cameras.
As an ISPS (International Ship and Port Security Code) compliant Port, the system should provide all the necessary visual information for observing localised and hazardous areas, roadway surveillance, to decrease exposure to unnecessary risks, verify incidents and prevent vandal activity.
The project was undertaken by Alberta and implemented in three phases; installation of fibre infrastructure covering the underground laying of 20 kilometres of fibre optic cable; installation of IP Video Equipment, mainly 35 day / night cameras of the PTZ (pan, tilt and zoom) type; installation of related equipment in the surveillance control room and the computer room.
The cameras are monitored round the clock by Malta Freeport security personnel.
Storage is based on a SAN Solution capable of storing live streams from all cameras for at least seven days.
ICT Manager at Malta Freeport Jesmond Baldacchino said “Having been involved in the implementation of this system from its inception I can say upfront that I was impressed with the proficiency shown by Alberta’s team.”
“The technical targets set by Malta Freeport were effectively met within the set timeframe while we have a highly scalable system which is ready to grow with business exigencies,” he added.
Sales, Marketing, IT & Operations director at Malta Freeport Terminals Alex Montebello said “The growth in the Freeport’s operations and expansion in storage areas over the past years has brought with it increasing surveillance challenges of the activities.”
“The all‐embracing system which Malta Freeport has invested in is providing real‐time surveillance around the clock; placing us in a better position to offer our clients an enhanced service in the highly competitive market in which we are operating.”
