HSBC appoints new Chief Technology and Services Officer

Philip Farrugia has been appointed the Chief Technology and Services Officer (CTSO) at HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c. with effect from January 1, the bank announced.  The post is currently occupied by Mrs Sally Robson whose cross posting from HSBC UK is coming to an end after almost 5 years in Malta

“I am delighted to be able to announce Philip Farrugia’s appointment as HSBC Bank Malta’s Chief Technology and Services Officer.  Philip has had a distinguished career with the Bank over many years, and deserves the opportunity to lead our talented operations and technology teams.

“Over the last 5 years, Sally has played a significant part in the development of HSBC in Malta, and has been instrumental in leading the transformation of most of the Bank’s infrastructure, technology and support services, and many of the Bank’s most significant projects such as Euro conversion and Single European Payment Area (SEPA).  We will miss her drive and energy, and wish her well with her future career,” said Alan Richards, HSBC Malta CEO.

Farrugia, who has been employed with the bank since 1969, has occupied a number of senior posts in both branches and Head Office departments.  In 1980, he was seconded to the home loan company (Lohombus), rising to lead the company as Deputy General Manager and Company Secretary.  In 2005 he was appointed Head of Service Delivery for the Bank, and has been a member of the executive team for five years.
