Positive response to Arriva’s recruitment drive

Public transport reform is a step closer for the people of Malta. Arriva has launched a recruitment drive ahead of starting operations on 3 July 2011, which has attracted significant interest from the people of Malta.

From July this year Arriva Malta, the local consortium of leading European transport group Arriva and respected Maltese partner the Tumas Group, will provide public transport services in Malta and Gozo, under a 10-year contract to Transport Malta.

With around 920 positions to fill, there are many exciting career opportunities with Arriva in Malta and Gozo. Arriva is looking to recruit more than 700 drivers and also has a range of operational support positions to fill including driver trainers, depot supervisors, operations controllers and ticketing and revenue assistants. Technical experts are also in demand, with positions available including engineers, mechanics, electricians and those skilled in body repair. Other career opportunities with Arriva include management, head office and administrative roles in areas such as HR, operations, finance, commercial and communications, IT, and training.

Arriva’s Keith Bastow, said:“We are creating significant new job opportunities and I am convinced that there is a huge amount of talent in Malta waiting to be tapped.  We are confident of building a team in Malta that will provide the backbone of our successful local operation.”

“We have only just begun advertising but the response so far has been very encouraging. More than 700 men and women have expressed interest in working for Arriva to date. Our recruitment teams are beginning to arrange interviews, basic numeracy and literacy tests, and basic car driving skills and road awareness assessments. However there are still positions to fill and we would encourage anyone who drives for a living, as well as those car drivers who haven’t previously considered driving as a career, to get in touch with us.”

Anyone interested in joining Arriva Malta as a driver or in any of the other engineering, management or administration rolesshould call Arriva’s recruitment team on 2310-1101 or 2310-3003for information and guidance through the process, or visit the website, www.arriva.com.mt, and select the ‘Work with us’ section where there is a list of career opportunities with the relevant forms to fill in and submit electronically.

Before I die I'd like to be able to see a couple of drivers like those in the picture.

jobs, jobs, jobs!!!! That's what we need!!!! But an efficient, well thought out public transport system could also do much more to Malta. Transport links are hardly taken any note of in the valuation of property for example... If the public system allowed ppl to get from A to B faster (this will necessitate priority bus lanes because there's just too much traffic at the moment) then some ppl might consider buying property where they thought too remote... Ppl are too concentrated in the centre of Malta, and this for good reason (no one likes spending an hour to get to work every morning). A good public trans system could slowly start overcoming this problem... Property close to an efficient, noise free, bus terminus should also gain in value (unless we return to the present "honk your horn, I'm a bus driver!!" mentality!)
