SmartCity Malta’s unmatched security and management system

SmartCity Malta has implemented a first of its kind, extremely comprehensive security and building management system, succeeding in integrating both systems together to provide a highly developed and unique structure in which the two systems exchange information and execute actions based on the integrated and accumulated information collected through the functioning of both.

Honeywell Security provides innovative intrusion detection, video surveillance and access control products and solutions to monitor and protect millions of facilities, offices and homes worldwide. Honeywell is in the midst of a discussion with SmartCity Malta in regards to conducting a marketing case study on the specially designed systems installed by Engineering for Science and Industry (Malta Ltd) at SmartCity Malta project. The automation, security and management systems implemented in SCM01, are unique and will be used as a reference for building automation around the world.

This system seamlessly integrates the Pro-Watch® security management system with the Tridium (BMS). This means that the Security and BMS databases exchange information through specific software drivers.

Two systems, for Security and Management, are involved in the monitoring and controlling of the campus. In any given building, you will find these two areas are covered in ranging details. These vary from basic systems to very complicated and comprehensive systems. However it is rare to come across the integration of the two systems.

In terms of security, the campus and the buildings are fully managed and controlled via the centralized Door Access Control (DAC) and Closed Circuit TV (CCTV). The systems record any activity in the campus and the buildings, and correlate them together to identify any odds which can be cleared out by the 24/7 security team.

The Integrated Building Management System (IBMS) is interconnecting various services of the campus & the building together starting from the indoor and outdoor lighting, to the Power and Generators, and including AC controllers, water pumps, elevators and power usage meters. Similar to the case in the Security Systems, all the Campus & Building Services and Systems are controlled and monitored via the centralized IBMS. For an even more visible and easy to track approach, DAC and CCTV systems are integrated in the centralized IBMS as well.

This case study will centre on the supply and installation of the integrated Pro-Watch® Security System, building management system, infrastructure and highly redundant power at building SCM01 in SmartCity Malta. This integration between the two systems does not exist anywhere in the world; hence making SmartCity Malta the first to showcase such a sophisticated and sleek merge.
