MCA board member will be new Digital Champion
Godfrey Vella appointed new Digital Champion for Malta
Godfrey Vella, one of the new members of the board of the the Malta Communications Authority, will be Malta's new Digital Champion, replacing the former chairman Antonio Ghio.
Vella has extensive experience in the ICT sector and has held a number of senior positions, both at a management and also at a technical level, with major companies. He has led several complex ICT projects with responsibility for all aspects including technical, managerial, financial and regulatory.
During the 1990s, he was also involved in national ICT policy formulation, initially as a member of the National Strategy for IT steering committee and eventually, as Chair of the National Commission for IT.
"The government is confident that Vella will give a valid contribution as Malta's Digital Champion in the European Union and that he will work with citizens, communities and businesses to exploit the growth potential of the digital economy," parliamentary secretary for economic growth Edward Zammit Lewis said. "Malta remains committed to the ICT initiatives and is successfully working towards meeting all the objectives of the Digital Agenda in this regard."
A Digital Champion is appointed by each EU member state to work with citizens, communities and businesses to exploit the growth potential of the digital economy.
Each Digital Champion works with citizens, communities and businesses to exploit the growth potential of the digital economy. They can do this in many ways: by helping individuals to enhance their IT skills, by ensuring that the public sector becomes more efficient and customer-friendly and by helping businesses to embrace new technologies which will allow them to be more productive and competitive at home and across borders.
