Melita completes Gozo mobile network upgrades

Melita has completed upgrades to its mobile network in Gozo as part of a five-year €70 million rolling investment program.

The network upgrade aims to provide improved coverage across the entire island of Gozo by using lower-band frequencies assigned to Melita by the Malta Communications Authority. These frequencies are in the same band utilised by other local operators and offer better indoor mobile coverage.

“Gozo is very important to Melita and our investment decisions always ensure that services in Gozo are at par with Malta. Residents in Gozo have access to broadband speeds of 100 Megabits across the whole network - a unique feature even on a European level.

“Various social and entertainment in Gozo areas are also covered by free melitaWIFI services. This latest investment is yet another commitment by Melita to ensure quality of service in Gozo”, commented Ludolf Rasterhoff, Chief Operating Officer at Melita.

During the month of July customers subscribing to ‘The One’ mobile pay monthly plan at Melita’s Gozo outlet in Victoria benefit from three months free 1GB mobile internet bundle.

The One plan offers free calls with no limits to all local number and free access to melitaWIFI internet for as little as €30 per month. Customers already subscribed to Melita’s Entertainment Pack get further discounts and better value.

Amongst other places, free melitaWIFI is available along Victoria’s main streets, Mgarr Harbour, Marsalforn and Xlendi bay.

Melita has recently announced other upgrades to its mobile network, from 3G to 3G+. Through this upgrade, customers will benefit from a faster mobile internet service with speeds reaching up to 42Mbps on mobile. This upgrade will complement the melitaWIFI service which already delivers speeds of up to 100Mbps.

The first localities that have been upgraded to 42Mbps mobile internet speeds include popular social and entertainment areas such as Valletta, Sliema, and Paceville. Pay monthly customers subscribed to plans such as ‘The One’ are already benefitting from these faster mobile internet speeds.
