Police department launches new anti-cyber crime campaign

The police department has just launched a new video on internet fraud in its plight against digital crime. 

In the last year, the Cyber Crime Unit was involved in over 240 cases after members of the general public reported being victimised by online fraud. These cases include people being fooled into sending large amounts of money after receiving a message informing them that they won a large sum of money or about some urgent cause that required fund-raising.  Other cases involved people finding themselves in a difficult situation after they tried to purchase or sell something online.

The police department calls once again for people to check the credibility of these messages before corresponding or sending their details to the people on the other end of the line.

The police departments warns that no one should be influenced by messages that push people to take quick actions, and reminds the general public to be weary of our actions online.

“If it looks too good to be true, then it probably isn’t – even on the internet!”
