Vodafone brings 'superfast' 4G+ to Malta
Vodafone's 'superfast' 4G+ mobile network, which has been available in Gozo since June, is making its way to Maltese phones today
After having rolled out the “superfast” 4G+ mobile internet network in Gozo in June this summer, Vodafone is now bringing the same service to Malta.
According to Vodafone, the new technology “allows for the downloading of data at unprecedented speeds, 60% faster than 4G, at up to 210 Mbps”.
The new technology was switched on today, in the north of the island, with other localities being promised connection “over the coming weeks”.
Head of Technology Sheila Kavanagh explained how “social networking, accessing apps, cloud storage, loading photos and video streaming are all activities that we’ve grown accustomed to doing on the move”.
She went on to add that “the demand for data has exploded due to content-rich platforms, such as Facebook and Snapchat” as they generally use high-definition video clips. The brand new 4G+ technology will solve these problems, said Sheila, as 4G+ “will offer a faster, smoother and higher quality viewing experience devoid of buffering, connecting our customers instantly”.
“Social networking, accessing apps, cloud storage, loading photos and video streaming are all activities that we’ve grown accustomed to doing on the move,” Head of Technology Sheila Kavanagh said.
Kenneth Spiteri, Head of Enterprise said that the 4G+ network will open up a new world of mobilisation for business clients as it “will vastly improve business calls and cloud-based apps”, enabling business clients to launch services whilst on the move, for their own customer bases in varying industries.
“Vodafone keeps leading innovation in mobile technology in Malta”, said Schembri. “With the new 4G+ technology being at least 1.5 times faster” than Vodafone’s competitors.
4G+ speeds will automatically be available to customers with compatible phones.
