Indigenous plants destroyed in Qawra
Salicornia plants destroyed in protected maritime zone in Qawra.
Luna Park workers were today seen cutting an indigenous plant, known as Salicornia, in a protected maritime zone next to the EU funded aquarium in Qawra.
Ironically, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority issued the permit to the amusement park owners after imposing a number of strict conditions on the nearby national aquarium development, given the area's protected maritime status.
The €15.6 million aquarium project, funded by €8 million in EU funds and private investment, covers 20,000 square metres and is scheduled to open later this year.

In the 80's we used to say that Zejtun was the Beirut of Malta. However, nowadays, its Qawra and Bugibba that deserves this title. Summer is almost in and we will soon Bugibba square turned into a daily open air disco party. Its a free for all zone !

Joseph the honey moon is over, please start governing and MEPA wake up and do your job.
•
The simple answer is to boycott the LUNA park when it opens.
•
It is a great shame that indigenous plants are being destroyed for commercial interests only. If the LUNApark culprits broke the law they should be immediately stopped and forced to pay compensation for the protection of our habitat.

Cleaning up MEPA must be put on the fast lane. Too many "mistakes" are still being made.
