Qawra Point proposed as hunting-free site
Ornis Committee rules that Qawra Point should be a hunting and trapping free site, hunting federation FKNK lashes out at decision
The Ornis Committee, the consultative body on hunting regulations, has proposed that hunting and trapping should be prohibited at Qawra Point.
The decision was announced by hunting federation FKNK, who said in a statement that the proposal was floated by Ornis Committee chairman Mark Anthony Falzon during a meeting earlier today.
It was supported by the Wild Bird Regulation Unit, the government’s hunting regulatory agency.
FKNK secretary-general Daniel Xriha said that the federation’s representative had refused to vote on the proposal and had walked out of the committee meeting in protest.
“The Ornis chairman made this proposal, without any valid or justified reason, and was immediately supported by the WBRU,” Xriha said. “The ban of hunting from Qawra Point comes in the wake of a similar ban on the land known as Tas-Safra, a decision that was taken without any consultation and that was not even discussed by the Ornis Committee.”
