If someone mentions dinner at a sports club, you may turn up expecting an energy bar and a smoothie. However, dinner at Spezzo restaurant, located at the Civil Service Sports Club in Archbishop Street in Valletta will provide all foodies a pleasant surprise.
Just a stone’s throw from the Grandmaster’s Palace, the restaurant takes over the ground floor of the Sports Club with elegantly decorated tables leading up to a modern, open plan kitchen where you can catch a glimpse of the busy chefs preparing edible works of art.
Spezzo has managed to create an eloquent balance between the baroque and avant-garde, promising to delight patrons with its sophisticated ambience and luscious gastronomy.
Spezzo specialises in hearty Mediterranean cuisine, with plates so elaborately decorated it makes you feel guilty to cut into the painstaking work that has gone into preparing the dish. The guilt subsides with the first mouthful as every morsel is as tasty as it is beautiful.
The newly-launched summer menu includes a selection of starters, pasta dishes, meat and fish. The menu is small but every dish is mouth-watering and diners have a selection of dishes that are sure to be the freshest possible. Try the special Spezzo Sizzler, which is a sizzling dish of mixed meat for one hungry person or two persons to share.
A variety of stylish and graceful wines complements the array of dishes being served.
On selected Saturday nights, diners can enjoy the tunes of the Spanish guitar as played by Mark Rapa while dining between 20:30 and 23:30.
The family-run restaurant provides the ideal venue for a business lunch, a romantic rendezvous, dinner with friends or a quiet night after the theatre.
Spezzo is open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch between 12:00 and 14:30 and dinner between 19:00 and 23:00 and for lunch on Sundays between 12:00 and 12:30.
