New York Best | A taste of the Big Apple
Just outside university, among a myriad of cafes selling the same baguettes and frozen pizzas is a little burger joint that goes by the name of New York Best, that should be more than just a student refuelling station.

Tommy Diacono runs the show with his brother Nicky in the kitchen, whipping up New York style burgers with the love and passion for food that Nanna Rita has drilled into her 11 children and countless grandchildren.
Food has to be served fresh. No short cuts or pre-prepared rubbish. The beef patties are made in-house, and topped with quality cheese and other condiments. They even make their own BBQ sauce and bacon relish - you have to try it to believe it. Last but not least the bun - something that often gets neglected.
Burgers are served pink, just as they should, and if customers want to ruin their food by overcooking it or adding sauces that don't go on certain dishes you can be sure to get an earful before having your order "ruined".
New York Best is not simply about the burgers but everything New York. Which means hot dogs, pizzas (sold whole or by the slice), spicy chicken wings, wraps and of course bagels with delicious smoked salmon or BLT.
There is always a stock of Nanna Rita's lasagne for a less "fast" meal and salads for those watching the waistline.
After dinner, get your hands on a home-made brownie.
On Saturday mornings - when they are less busy - is the best time to get to New York Best to try their Egg Benedict Breakfast. Two wobbly poached eggs on toasted English muffins and a rasher or bacon smothered with Hollandaise sauce is the breakfast of champions.
And what's more is that is that since it is just outside university and the clientele are broke students, prices are catered to suit their budgets. Fresh ingredients prepared with Diacono love at student prices. My advice is not to let the students alone reap the benefits of this fast food joint.
