Trattoria Da Pippo | A home away from home
For the best lunches outside of your own kitchen, head down to Trattoria Da Pippo.
Trattoria Da Pippo has been serving the freshest lunches for almost 40 years, feeding Valletta's business community as well as a number of celebrities that seek out the best in Mediterranean cuisine whilst staying as private as they possibly could. Among them are Brad and Angelina and Tom Hanks.
Whether you're on Hollywood's A-list or not you can be sure to get the same warm and friendly service together with the very best of local ingredients.
At Da Pippo there is no such thing as a menu, and the food they serve does not change with the seasons, but rather according to what they can source fresh that day.
Whatever is available that day is on show in the display counter and owner Francesco, better known as Cikku, will come to your table and recommend whatever he thinks is best.
Everything is sourced on a daily basis and if you leave it too late to order dessert you may risk going without as they nothing is stored overnight and at the end of the day the display counter is bare.
The bread comes from a Valletta baker and is nearly impossible to avoid, smothered in local olives and drenched in olive oil, so carb-haters beware. Complimentary nibbles also include scrumptious Gozitan gbejniet and mixed beans - a showcase of local produce aimed at pleasing locals and tourists alike.
Wherever possible ingredients are sourced locally, with divers bringing in fresh fish, prawns and vongole.
The art on the wall is also a display of the best available on the local market and these are also for sale.
Though the trattoria is only open for lunch, they also accommodate group functions for more than 20 people in the evenings.
Da Pippo is open daily from 11:30 - 15:30 (closed Sunday)
