Dermatology, aesthetics experts from 35 countries in Malta for first annual congress

Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre recently hosted a series of international workshops at its Ta' Xbiex premises in conjunction with the Dermatologic & Aesthetic Surgery International League (DASIL).

DASIL is a global forum for dermatologists and aesthetic surgeons that chose Malta to host its first International Annual Congress. By providing a transparent environment for the exchange of knowledge, the DASIL seeks to offer the opportunity to not only learn from the mentors and teachers present, but also from one another - which is the main goal behind the formation of the DASIL.

The workshops held at Persona offered the latest teaching and practice of procedures such as liposuction under local anaesthesia, which were performed both with SmartLipo MPX laser and by micro-cannular liposuction. This workshop was conducted by world renowned experts led by Dr Pierre Fournier, a specialist in aesthetic plastic surgery.

Fournier is the co-inventor of liposuction and lipo-filling techniques. He is considered by most to be the founding father of modern aesthetics.

The session on treatment of thread veins and varicose veins with vascular lasers and sclerotherapy was led by two Italian specialists of the highest international repute: Dr Leonardo Marini, a dermatologic surgeon, who is an expert in laser dermatology, and Dr Gianfranco Vettorello a specialist in vascular and plastic surgery.

The final workshop focused on fat transfer, a cutting-edge treatment for facial rejuvenation that is creating a stir in the aesthetic surgery field with doctors and potential patients alike. 

All workshops were ably supported by Persona's own medical specialists, and nursing staff.

The DASIL annual congress itself is being hosted over four days at the Westin Dragonara Resort in St. Julian's.

Specialists from over 35 counties are attending and will be joined by leading local experts. The talks during the congress will cover the latest innovations & advances in dermatology & aesthetics. Sessions will be diverse, ranging from the treatment of acne scars and how to get the perfect lips, to novel treatments for excessive perspiration and hair removal, as well as pigmentation treatments from around the world. All of this, not to forget to mention the much-anticipated plenary session by local dermatologist Prof. Joe Pace titled "Centuries of Medical History in Malta"!

The top-ranking speakers include Dr Michael H. Gold, president of DASIL. Gold is a US dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon who has earned worldwide recognition for providing patients with leading edge technological advances in dermatology and aesthetic skin care. He plays an integral role internationally in the development of new pharmaceutical products and medical devices through his clinical research, and presents the results regularly at national and international dermatology and cosmetic meetings.
