New Melanoma prevention campaign by SkinCeuticals at Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre
Monday 17th 2013 - Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre in collaboration with leading cosmeceutical skincare brand SkinCeuticals is raising awareness about skin cancer prevention.
As part of this initiative, Persona is encouraging its Facebook fans to share an informative video produced by SkinCeuticals. For every share, Persona is donating €1 to the Malta Association of Dermatology and Venereology (MADV). The video is available on the Facebook page ‘Skinceuticals Malta’.
The aim of this initiative is to support the association in its efforts to continue promoting skin cancer awareness and prevention.
In addition, as part of its ‘prevent, protect and get checked’ campaign, Persona also offered free dermatologist consultations to create awareness that early detection of skin cancer saves lives. By harnessing the power and influence of social media, Persona’s aim is to spread the message about melanoma as far and wide as possible.
Now that summer is here, many families go to the beach for long hours and SkinCeuticals is urging everyone to avoid the sunniest hours of the day (between 11am – 4pm) and use high factor broad spectrum sunscreen to protect their skin from damaging UVA, UVB and IRA rays. SkinCeuticals remains committed to keep on educating people about the importance of skin damage prevention.
Even though Maltese are very fond of their tan, one should keep in mind and be aware of the damage and risks taken when exposing your skin to the sun.
Unfortunately, there are many types of skin cancer with melanoma being the most invasive and deadliest. Unlike most other skin cancers, melanoma spreads to the rest of the body at an alarmingly high rate, thereby increasing the chance of fatality. There has been a sharp rise in cases of melanoma over the last few years, reasons for which have not been clearly defined yet - but researchers are quick to indicate that the depletion of the ozone layer is probably linked to it.
Other contributory factors, such as tanning beds and a lack of awareness about sun avoidance and protection have been identified.
SkinCeuticals has addressed the problems caused with prolonged sun exposure in its wide-range of products. This includes sunscreens, as well as antioxidants, which act as the 1st line of defense against free radical photodamage generated by UV and IRA rays. SkinCeuticals products are available at Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre in Ta’ Xbiex. Readers can contact Persona on 21340366 or [email protected]
