Melita FC launches new logo on its 80th anniversary
First division football club, Melita FC has launched one unified club logo for both its nursery and first team. The new logo was launched on the club's 80th anniversary year. The inauguration ceremony was presided by club president Paul Zammit, together with the Melita FC committee members, the Club's first team players and coach, the youth nursery players as well as former players and committee members.
In his address Paul Zammit said: "It is an honour to preside over one of the oldest football club and the only amateur team in Malta. Over the past years thanks to the hard work of all my predecessors, the club has grown from strength to strength and today Melita FC has one of the best equipped football complexes in Malta. We are launching our new logo as part of our forwarding looking strategy to take this club forward and continue building on the Club's glorious past."
"Over the past years our nursery has continued to increase in numbers and today I am happy to say that we have over 400 children being trained by over 40 coaches. This makes it a huge operation which I would not have been able to carry out without the full support of the Melita FC committee members and many volunteers who support this Club."
Zammit also thanked the main sponsors of the club namely, Atlas Insurance, Eurosport, Hebe, O'Hea, 6PM and Powerade for their continuous support. He also thanked the players, coaches and parents.
The Melita FC logo has been given a modern rendition using the yellow, black and red colours associated with the club together with the traditional St Julians mascot, the deer. The logo was based on the designs of a number of Melita nursery players who earlier this year participated in a logo competition.
Following the launch of the new logo children and parents from the Melita FC with the help of JP Advertising formed a large moustache in the pitch in support of the Movember campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.
Melita FC is one of the oldest football clubs in Malta. It was founded in 1933 by Gian Bencini who was president of the club for many years thereafter. Melita FC is the only amateur club in Malta and prides itself with the philosophy 'Home of the Amateur' and 'Play the game for the game's sake'.
The football nursery was launched in 1989 and it has grown from strength to strength over the years. Today the Club's nursery hosts over 400 children between the age of 5 and 16 years. Most of the junior teams are in the Section A division, the highest class of four sections used to classify teams in the Youth Football Association (YFA).
In 2003 Melita FC embarked on an ambitious project to improve the level of sport and its facilities and today boasts of an 11-a-side artificial pitch FIFA 2 standard with quality lighting and spectators stand, two five-a-side pitches, five new dressing rooms, parking facilities, fully equipped bar and restaurant and a children's and adults gym.
