New maternity, children’s hospital to hold 180 beds

The plans for a new maternity and children’s hospital have been concluded and will increase bed space by 180 beds, along with four operating theatres and an intensive therapy unit for babies.

The announcement was made by parliamentary secretary for health Chris Fearne who on Saturday opened an outdoor play area at Mater Dei’s Disneyland Ward.

The play area was possible thanks to athlete Nathan Farrugia who completed the 27 Challenge for Charity. Donations collected from the marathon were passed on to Inspire and the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association who helped to build the play area.
