‘Walk for Giacomo’ to collaborate with Global Run Valletta

Friends and families of nine-year-old Giacomo Cassar Fenech will add their own colour to the first edition of Global Run Valletta (GRV), being held on 30 October 2016, by joining the runners and walkers, wearing designed t-shirts in orange, red, yellow and blue – inspired by some of the bands of a rainbow.

Those who will take part will be supporting Giacomo’s wish to donate blood and to donate to Puttinu Cares, since he himself is currently battling cancer at the Rainbow Ward.

“We thought to join the Global Run Valletta as we learned that the organisers too are bringing this world-class event to Malta to donate all registration fees to Puttinu Cares. It is Giacomo’s wish that people support a charity that is so fantastically helping him in his fight with cancer,” Jackie Cooper said, the mother of Giacomo’s best friend and the organiser of the walk.

According to her, the idea behind the walk is to bring something back to Giacomo and make him feel involved as he has been confined to his bed for the past six weeks.

Reportedly more than 175, including other children Giacomo’s age, have registered their interest to participate.

“The enthusiasm of the participants is truly inspiring to Puttinu Cares. These kids are leading by example by showing that solidarity and companionship do not follow age barriers. Such initiatives are welcomed,” a Puttinu Cares spokesperson said.

Being organised for the fist time in Malta on Sunday 30 October by Global Ports Holding, GRV 2016 features a 10K run, and a 5K run and a 5K walk. All registration money will be donated to Puttinu Cares.

Registration to the race and the walk is open to all including children born till 2011.

Those registering for Giacomo are instructed to enter ‘Giacomo’ in the club affiliation box.

The fee to enter the 10K run is €10, €5 for the 5K run, and €5 for the 5K walk.
