Seasonal influenza vaccine to be available next week
The health ministry has said that this year’s seasonal influenza vaccine will be available as of next week
The seasonal influenza vaccine for the year 2016/2017 will be available from all health centres from Monday 7 November, the health ministry has confirmed.
In a statement, the health ministry explained that free vaccination are available for free for persons over 55 years, children between 6 months and 59 months old, and persons of any age suffering from chronic diseases of the lungs, heart, liver, kidney, diabetes, and any immunodeficiency conditions, including HIV and AIDS.
The ministry has advised persons who fall under these categories that the Schedule V Control Card, or a recent medical certificate stating the person's medical condition should be presented, adding that priority will be given to these persons until 19 November.
“Following this date, the influenza vaccine will be available free of charge for all persons over the age of 6 months until stocks last,” the ministry said.
The immunisation clinics at Floriana, Mosta and Paola health centres will be open between 7 and 19 November from 10:00am to 1:00pm and again from 2:00pm to 7:00pm on weekdays, and from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 7:00pm on Saturdays.
The clinics in Gżira, Rabat, Cospicua, B'Kara and Qormi health centres will open from 10:00am to 1:00pm on weekdays and 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturdays.
From 21 November onwards, the vaccine will be available from all health centres during their usual opening hours.
The health ministry reminded the public that all persons who wish to receive the vaccine are to present their ID card. Similarly, parents bringing young children for vaccination should produce the baby's book or vaccination record.
